I had a good experience with Bluehost overall but ultimately was unhappy because they auto-renewed my hosting at a much higher rate than I originally paid. It was partially an error on my part — I was not on email at the time that the auto-renewal occurred and so was not able to cancel the subscription, which they would have initially allowed — but I was disappointed that they were not willing to offer a goodwill gesture and waive part of the additional fees. Overall my hosting experience with Bluehost was good, but the practice of auto-enrolling in auto-renewal, and at a significantly higher monthly rate, was highly disappointing. It was the kind of legal-but-unpleasant practice which seemed out of character for a generally reputable and customer-oriented hosting company, and which makes me reluctant to recommend the company to friends.

We decided, due to lack of bandwidth with our current host, to move our hosting. We needed to do this promptly so, after a look around at the market, decided on Bluehost, first mistake! Our website is relatively new and after much work and effort put into it, plus cost, we have seen this almost totally eroded away by Bluehosts lack of understanding and communication. Almost immediately they “de-activated” our control panel due to wrong contact info given during sign up, No we didn’t, all contact details were correct, so rather than just contact us they de-activate our control panel after we have pointed our nameservers! We have now been offline more than 30 hours and still cannot get them to contact us. Have sent around 30 e-mails, tried their “livechat” this has a queuing symbol, so I started fourth in line, went third, went 4th? Went 3rd again, went back to 4 th, back to third, then 2nd, hurray, getting somewhere now, no, back to 3rd and then back to fourth. This is a tad frustrating. Eventually got through & then disconnected 3 times! Have now asked for a refund of subscription, 4 hours later still waiting for a reply..

Support was great, They helped me when the e-mail didn’t just fit perfectly; they went step by step as needed, thank you for that great support. Very patient and professional too. I recently switched my web site from Network Solutions to BlueHost, and setting up my email on the iPad was the last step in making everything work. Chat is definitely better than email support for something like this.
